Resident Spotlight Helen Lloyd
Renaissance Marquis resident Helen Lloyd was born on May 25, 1937, to Howard and Omer Blalock in Paulding County, Georgia. She grew up as the fourth of eight children—part of a lively family of four girls and four boys. When Helen was three, the Blalocks moved to Floyd County, living in Silver Creek until she was 14, and then setting down new roots in Lindale.
Helen attended Harmony School from first through eighth grade, followed by Pepperell High School, where she graduated with the class of 1956. During her high school years, Helen worked at McClellan’s 5 & 10 Cent Store on Broad Street—a classic “five and dime” right in the heart of Rome. Shortly after graduation, she landed a job at a finance company in downtown Rome before starting a long and meaningful career at Inland Container Corporation in the Coosa community. Helen served as a Customer Service Representative there from 1960 until her retirement in 1999, earning the respect and affection of coworkers and customers alike.
Helen’s story is also one of lasting love. She and Jodie (Joe) Pitts married on March 31, 1956, spending 46 years together until his passing in March 2002. In August 2007, Helen found love and companionship again with James (Jimmy) Lloyd, sharing 18 happy years until his passing in June 2025.
Helen is the proud mother of two daughters: Jo Marie Amos (James) and Allison Cook (Robby). Her family circle also includes grandchildren Justin Amos (Keely), Cody Amos (Emily), Carson Cook, and Rylee Cook Barackman (Michael). She is blessed with three great-grandchildren: Declan Amos, Tenley Amos, and Charlotte Amos.
A woman of faith, Helen is an active member of Pleasant Valley South Baptist Church in Silver Creek. In her free time, she enjoys sitting outside in the sunshine, watching Atlanta Braves baseball and University of Georgia Bulldogs football on TV, and—most of all—spending precious time with her family.
Helen became a resident at Renaissance Marquis in February 2024 and has been part of our community for nearly two years. She looks forward to Friday visits to the ice cream shop and enjoys the Thursday coffee bar with friends. She especially appreciates hearing the First Baptist Lindale Senior Adult Choir and watching the Dixie Stompers perform. When asked what she likes most about Renaissance Marquis, Helen is quick to mention the friendliness of the residents and the caring, helpful staff.
Helen’s life is a wonderful tapestry of hard work, deep roots, and family devotion. We’re honored that she calls Renaissance Marquis her home.
