Renaissance Marquis to Hold 2nd Annual Charlie Hyde Memorial Golf Tournament, Sept. 19, to Benefit the Walk to End Alzheimer’sNew Page

Alzheimer’s Charity Event to Be Held at Meadow Lakes Golf Club, Cedartown

ROME, Ga. (September 16, 2014) – Renaissance Marquis Retirement Community will hold its Second Annual Charlie Hyde Memorial for Alzheimer’s Awareness Golf Tournament on Friday, Sept. 19, at the Meadow Lakes Golf Club, located at 383 Adams Road in Cedartown.

All proceeds from the tournament will be donated to the 2014 Walk to End Alzheimer’s.

The tournament will begin with a Shotgun start at 10 a.m., with a four-person scramble format.

“The Charlie Hyde Memorial for Alzheimer’s Awareness Golf Tournament is part of Renaissance Marquis’ continuing commitment to supporting Alzheimer’s research and the local Alzheimer’s Association,” says Ben Baker, Director of Marketing at Renaissance Marquis.

The tournament’s namesake, Charlie Hyde, and his wife, JoAnn, were both long time residents of Renaissance Marquis. When JoAnn was diagnosed with dementia, Charlie became a strong advocate for Alzheimer’s research and memory care on JoAnn’s behalf.

“Charlie was also passionate about golf,” says Baker. “When we first started talking about developing a fundraising tournament, Charlie’s name immediately came up. This is one of the best ways we could think of to honor him, and combine two of his greatest passions later in life.”

The $300 team registration fee will cover the tournament entry, awards luncheon, and on-course food and beverage. There will also be prizes in both the men and women’s categories for Longest Drive and Closest to the Pin. A grand prize will be given away to anyone sinking the HOLE-IN-ONE on Hole 3.

The Renaissance Marquis is also hosting a silent auction with a variety of outstanding items donated from some of Rome’s most gracious local businesses.

Last year’s event was a tremendous first year success. The 15 teams who participated in the inaugural event, enjoyed a gorgeous day and  raised over $5,000, which was matched by Renaissance Marquis’ parent company, Legacy Senior Services, resulting in a first year donation of over $10,000 to the local Alzheimer’s association. The event also received great support from the local business community with the donation of over 40 silent auction items and lunch provided by Chick-fil-a. This year is shaping up to be just as exciting.
