If you catch a flash of blue eyes and a smile that lights up the room, you’ve probably just met Johnnie Wise. Born on a crisp January day in 1938, Johnnie grew up surrounded by the rolling hills of Walland, a small, close-knit community in Blount County, Tennessee. Her parents, Bea and Odell Burns, filled their home with warmth and laughter, and Johnnie shared childhood adventures with her brother, who now lives in nearby Maryville.

After graduating from Walland High School, Johnnie dove straight into the world of sales and retail management—a career that suited her genuine nature and easy conversation style. She married right out of high school and welcomed a son, and later found love again with Walter Wise, a proud military man.

Though she doesn’t have grandchildren (yet!), Johnnie’s family includes Sadie Mae, her devoted little companion who’s never far from her side here at Renaissance Marquis. You’ll often spot the two of them together—Sadie Mae’s tail wagging, Johnnie’s eyes twinkling as she says hello to neighbors.

In quieter moments, Johnnie once loved to cross-stitch, creating delicate patterns that spoke to her patience and attention to detail. These days, she’s a regular at Bingo and can often be found in the Bird Lobby, catching up with friends amid the gentle chatter and flutter of wings.

After a year at Renaissance Marquis, Johnnie has become part of the heartbeat of the community. Her smile, as bright as a Tennessee morning, makes everyone who meets her feel right at home.

Mother’s Day is a time to recognize the steady, often quiet work of caring for others. For many, mothers are the first example of what it means to nurture.
